Author Byeon Sang-byeok(卞相璧, 1730-?)
Description The painter Byeon Sang-byeok (1730-?) is well-known for his nicknames, particularly Byeon Goyang (“Byeon Cat”) and Byeon Gye (“Byeon Chicken”) derived from his preference for depicting cats and fowl. This painting exquisitely portrays sparrows and cats in a realistic manner. The new light-green leaves on the old tree provide a contrast with the detailed portrayal of the animals.
