About the Exhibition

The Korean Folk Art, Inc. presented its second annual group exhibition, Eudaimonia | 에우다이모니아, at Gallery CHUN in Flushing, New York. Curated by Stephanie S. Lee, director of the Korean Folk Art, Inc. (KoreanFolkArt.org), this exhibition featured twelve artists who share a deep love for Minhwa—Korean folk painting—and who continue to reinterpret its beauty through their own contemporary perspectives.

Minhwa, with its vivid colors and auspicious symbols, embodies not only visual beauty but also heartfelt wishes for happiness, longevity, and harmony. However, the essence of these works extends beyond simple “happiness.” This inspired the exhibition’s title, Eudaimonia—a term rooted in Greek philosophy that combines eu (“good”) and daimonia (“spirit” or “soul”).

Rather than a fleeting sense of pleasure, Eudaimonia represents a deeper, more virtuous state of well-being—a life lived with integrity, balance, and goodness. Although the concept originates from Western philosophy, Aristotle’s idea of Eudaimonia resonates closely with the spiritual and moral aspirations found in Korean Minhwa. Both traditions share a common pursuit: the desire for a good and meaningful life, where personal harmony extends to the well-being of one’s community and surroundings.

Through this exhibition, the participating artists reflected on these universal values, connecting the timeless wisdom of Minhwa with contemporary life in America. Eudaimonia | 에우다이모니아 invited visitors to experience artworks that bridge cultures, generations, and philosophies—each brushstroke carrying a wish for inner peace and collective happiness.
