[Feb 3 - Feb 17, 2022] Dialogues on Immigration through Minhwa

Dialogues on Immigration through Minhwa

From February 3–17, 2022, The Korean Folk Art, Inc and The Garage Art Center, Inc. hosted a series of three 90-minute Minhwa (Korean Folk Art) painting workshops at the KCS Adult Day Care Center. Under the guidance of artist and educator Stephanie S. Lee, Korean American seniors explored traditional motifs and colors, transforming each brushstroke into a moment of mindfulness, expression, and connection.

The program culminated in a group exhibition titled Dialogues on Immigration through Minhwa, presented at The Garage Art Center from February 19–27, 2022. The exhibition showcased participants’ finished works—vivid expressions of cultural pride, resilience, and personal stories of migration.

Amid challenges such as social isolation, health concerns, and ongoing experiences of discrimination, this project offered more than art instruction—it provided healing, belonging, and joy. Through creative practice, participants strengthened their sense of identity and community while bridging generations and cultures.

Together, we celebrated the power of art to heal, connect, and uplift.
